Cayuse Pass, Chinook Pass, Tipsoo Lake Area - (description from 1949 Sportsman Guide)


42 miles SE of Enumclaw, 70 miles from Seattle on US No. 410, Washington No. 5.

Cayuse ski area at intersection of US No. 410 and Washington No. 5 from Ohanapecosh, on east central boundary of Mt Rainier National Park.
Chinook and Tipsoo four miles up to Cascade summit. Paved road open all year to Cayuse except for slide periods. Open to Chinook until late
spring.  Elevation 5,400 feet.

Skiing Conditions: Exceptional, as area lies on north and east slopes.  Diversified terrain at Cayuse. One 400' ski tow. Park service requires the
removal of lift by June 1. Lift is then removed to Chinook Pass for spring skiing . Spring skiing is unexcelled at Chinook and runs well into July, for
all type of enthusiasts. Tipsoo offers fine bowl terrain when accessable.  Season starts November 15. Deep dry powder with granulated snow in
the spring.
